LAURA CARTER is a Registered Architect in New York State, member of the American Institute of Architects, Passive House Designer, and LEED Accredited Professional.

She received a Masters in Architecture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, a BA from DePaul University in Chicago, IL, and is an alumnus of the Archeworks Alternative Design School, also in Chicago.

Laura has worked as an Architect and Project Manager at Heitler Houstoun Architects and Buck Moorhead Architect. Recent work includes:

  • Conversion of 5-story 1930’s industrial building into new commercial tenant spaces in Brooklyn, NY

  • New 3,000sf custom home in Upstate New York marrying traditional farmhouse aesthetics with Passive House principles

  • New storefront medical offices for design-forward healthcare startup in Brooklyn, Indianapolis, and Columbus

  • Multiple condos renovations in NYC and Miami Beach, Florida

  • Gut rehab and energy retrofit of single family home in Queens, NY

  • The Catskill Project, a new all-Passive House, net zero single family residential development in Livingston Manor, NY

She also enjoys keeping an active moonlighting practice called FORMWORK, providing design, drafting, consulting, project management, research and Architect of Record (NY) services for a wide variety of project types. Recent work includes:

In her free time, Laura plays with the L Train Brass Band, of which she is also Finance Director, and dabbles (poorly) in woodworking and (mediocrely) in quilting. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.
